Selection Criteria for Graduate Students

Although the CSU sets minimum requirements for admission to graduate programs for all campuses, each program at Cal Poly also has its own individual requirements.

CSU Minimum Requirements

The CSU requires that all graduate students meet the following minimum requirements:

  • You must have completed a four-year college course of study and hold an acceptable baccalaureate.
  • You must be in good academic standing at the last college or university attended.
  • You must have attained a grade point average of at least 2.5 in an acceptable earned baccalaureate degree.
  • You must meet the professional, personal, scholastic, and other standards for graduate study, including qualifying examinations and specific course and/or grade prerequisites, as appropriate campus authorities may prescribe.

Individual Program Requirements

Each individual graduate program has different selection criteria. Many programs require official GRE scores, Personal Statements, Resume/CV, Letters of Recommendations, etc. to be submitted with your application.

For more details about your program’s admissions requirements, check your individual program requirements or contact the program’s Faculty Graduate Coordinator.
