building our future
Research and innovation at Cal Poly are assisted by over 25 centers and institutes. Students, faculty and industry collaborate across disciplines to address the global needs of today and prepare for the problems of tomorrow.
Innovation and Entrepreneurship
The Cal Poly Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) helps students and community members acquire the tools, develop the skills and cultivate the mindset of an entrepreneur so they can create economic and social value throughout the world.
Coastal Marine Sciences
The Center for Coastal Marine Sciences (CCMS) researches methods for enhancing marine life, protecting coastal habitats, adapting for climate change and more. Among the labs and facilities is a 3000-foot research pier in nearby Avila Beach, providing Cal Poly unrivaled access to the ocean and opportunities for day-to-day field work, research cruises and scientific diving programs.
With nearly 10,000 acres of land to serve as a living laboratory for assessing sustainability practices, the Center aims to determine how to support the future of agriculture.
The California Center for Construction Education allows students and industry to come together and explore new innovation and technology in design and construction.
Through experimenting with new and emerging technologies, the center brings together technology and the liberal arts and will soon have a home in the heart of campus.
California Cybersecurity Institute
In partnership with the California National Guard, the California Cybersecurity Institute (CCI) explores new cyber technologies in order to protect California from future cyber threats. The Center educates the next generation of cyber workforce and allows them to train and test tactics side by side with law enforcement professionals and cyberforensics experts.
