Changes That Might Affect Your Aid

There are variety of circumstances that may affect your financial aid award including reaching aid limits or reducing the number of units in which you’re enrolled. Always check with the Financial Aid Office if you are changing majors, units, taking a quarter off, etc. to make sure you have the information you need on how it might impact your aid.

Financial Aid Rules and Limits

All Financial Aid programs have limits that dictate when you are no longer eligible to receive aid.

Reducing Units

Registering less than full-time can lower the amount or cancel your financial aid.

Taking a Semester Off

If you take a semester off during the academic year, your cost of attendance will be adjusted to reflect only the period of time you were actually enrolled and attending classes, and your financial aid eligibility may change.

Because financial aid is packaged based on the assumption that students will attend the full academic year, changes in enrollment may result in adjustments to grants, scholarships, loans or other aid programs, including aid that has already disbursed for the term you were enrolled.

Contact the Financial Aid Office before taking a semester off to understand how your financial aid may be impacted based on your individual circumstances.

Withdrawal

Withdrawing mid-quarter from the university may require you to payback a portion of your financial aid.

Graduation

If you are graduating and do not attend all three quarters of that academic year, your federal loans will be prorated.
