Admitted Students FAQ

Welcome to the most frequently asked questions for admitted students.

Here you'll find answers to your questions about enrolling at Cal Poly. If you don’t find what you need, our team is ready to help you prepare for your first day on campus.

Cal Poly Maritime Academy

Will students attending Cal Poly Maritime Academy be charged Cal Poly fees, and what support is available for former Cal Maritime students?

Beginning fall 2026, all Cal Poly students attending Cal Poly Maritime Academy will be charged Cal Poly fees. Because this shift was not something former Cal Maritime students anticipated when they began their studies, students who enrolled at Cal Maritime before the integration with Cal Poly will receive scholarships to help offset the change in fees.

The 2026-2027 cost of attendance (including tuition and fees, and room and board) for Cal Poly is currently being finalized and will be clearly communicated in Spring 2026.

Will Cal Poly Maritime Academy participate in the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) program?

Cal Poly is not a participant in the WUE program. However, non-California residents are encouraged to apply for financial aid through the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships.

Am I required to live on campus?

Yes. All new students live on campus and participate in a residential meal plan, helping you build community and quickly feel at home. You may be exempted from living on campus if you meet eligibility requirements.

Can I change majors from Cal Poly Maritime Academy to Cal Poly?

You can request a major change from Cal Poly Maritime Academy to Cal Poly before the Jan. 31 application change deadline, but it’s important to know that this does not guarantee you a spot back at Cal Poly Maritime Academy if you are not admitted to Cal Poly. If you want to change your major after the Jan. 31 deadline, you will need to follow Cal Poly’s Change of Major Policy.

Where can I find all academic policies for Cal Poly Maritime Academy students?

Both Cal Poly and Cal Poly Maritime Academy students are subject to the same academic policies.

Is there a deposit to accept my offer of admission?

There is not, your first deposit of any kind will come when you submit your housing and dining application in April.

What does “conditional” admission mean?

Your admission becomes official when your self-reported information has been verified with official documents, and if you adhere to the terms and conditions of your admission.

When will I receive information about financial aid?

You will receive an email from the Financial Aid Office directing you to view your award/s when financial aid has been awarded.
