Students Gain Real-World Experience Through Prescribed Burn
In collaboration with Cal Poly and California State Parks, CAL FIRE San Luis Obispo conducted a joint-effort prescribed burn at the university’s Escuela Ranch as part of its ongoing vegetation management plan. About 30 acres of vegetation were burned Monday morning, Oct. 13. The carefully controlled effort enhances fire safety, improves ecosystem health and provides valuable hands-on training opportunities for Cal Poly forest and fire sciences students, the California State Parks wildfire resilience team and CAL FIRE staff.

Stay Two Steps Ahead with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Cal Poly requires MFA to add an extra layer of protection to your account—but why stop there? Enable MFA on your personal accounts, too — especially those tied to sensitive data such as banking or email. Security keeps evolving, and new options like passkeys let you log in securely without a password, making them much harder to steal. Using MFA across your digital life strengthens your defenses, protects your privacy, and gives you peace of mind knowing your accounts are far more secure.

Complete Self-Assessment Survey by Nov. 4
As part of Cal Poly’s legal and ethical obligation under NAGPRA and CalNAGPRA, all departments are asked to check spaces and report any Native American cultural items or human remains. Items should be reported regardless of how or when they were acquired — including purchases, gifts, recovery from archaeological excavations or unknown sources. When checking spaces, please do not move or touch human remains, items or collections. Document what you know based on existing records and visual inspections. The survey includes review of space both on campus (offices, classrooms, display cases, etc.) and off campus (storage facilities, remote locations).

Faculty and staff are encouraged to share this initiative with students and colleagues. Submission Guidelines
Cal Poly Report (CPR) is Cal Poly's official employee newsletter, designed to communicate information about officially sanctioned university news or events to faculty, staff and administrators.
All announcements, events and other listings and information must be faculty- and/or staff-focused. Submissions may run only one time — with the exception of Catastrophic Leave announcements and Employment Opportunities, which can run up to two consecutive weeks. Items are strictly limited to 100 words and should, whenever possible, provide a link to additional information online.
To help ensure CPR continues to contain only relevant and approved information, submissions are required to come from or be approved by the employee designated to approve submissions in the respective colleges, units and work areas. Entries submitted by those other than the designated approver must be accompanied by an approval form signed by the unit's approver. CPR is published on Wednesdays weekly during the school year, except during academic breaks, and monthly in the summer. The deadline for each issue is 5 p.m. the Thursday prior to publication.
