About the Program

The Mechanical Engineering program at Cal Poly Maritime Academy offers a unique educational approach by combining hands-on experiences and math and science-intensive coursework.

The mission of the program is to produce entry-level professionals capable of applying their knowledge of science and engineering in the design, analysis, operation and production of engineering components, systems and products.

Learn by Doing

All Mechanical Engineering students begin with a shared first-year curriculum and experience aboard Training Ship Golden Bear with a 60-plus-day Summer Sea Term.

Students learn fundamentals in math, science, communication, critical thinking and leadership. The program integrates lab work in areas of fluids / thermal, controls and manufacturing.

Internships provide a vital part of the Learn-by-Doing experience as students work hands-on with industry partners and prepare for their careers. Through required summer internships, students apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings, build professional networks, and gain insight into various engineering roles. This enhances your technical and leadership skills, giving graduates a competitive edge in the job market.

Our Graduates
