International Student Virtual Orientation

The International Student Orientation is required for all new freshmen, transfer, exchange and graduate students on a F or J visa. At the online orientation, new international students will be introduced to the International Center staff, learn about important campus resources, and will have the opportunity to interact with other international students as well as International Welcome Ambassador student volunteers. International Student Orientation will be conducted in two separate sessions to allow for greater flexibility for students across different time zones.

Center for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT)

This August 30 debut of a rich set of “effective teaching” resources supports new instructional personnel as they prepare for a successful fall quarter of teaching. Tutorials, guides, templates, exemplars, links to resources, and more can be accessed by instructional personnel on the CTLT website’s New Faculty page as their end-of-summer schedules allow. All materials are self-paced.

New Faculty Foundations Welcome Event

This event is the online, synchronous New Faculty Foundations (NFF) welcome session, hosted by the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology (CTLT). This session will include:

 

•  Welcome from Patrick O’Sullivan, CTLT Director
•  Welcome from Provost Cynthia Jackson-Elmoore
•  Introduction to the CTLT Team
•  Interactive questions and discussion with the CTLT team, a returning Cal Poly faculty panel, and new instructional personnel participants

Convocation

The program includes representatives from student government, the California Faculty Association, California State University Employees’ Union and the Academic Senate. The award winners for Distinguished Scholarship, Distinguished Teaching, Outstanding Staff, and Outstanding Faculty Advisory will be recognized. President Jeffrey D. Armstrong will give his keynote remarks.

Hosted by the Provost, this in-person event provides academic department chairs and heads an opportunity to meet as a group prior to the start of classes, have a dialogue with the Provost, receive updates on important issues and participate in a focused discussion on relevant topics.
