Flores joined the Agricultural Education & Communication Department in
1983. He formerly served as the Department Head, he teaches an orientation
course, upper division course, and he supervises senior projects.
His assignment also includes supervising student teachers in
Dr. Flores comes from a family of eight children who were born and raised in Bakersfield, California. His family’s move to a rural area of Bakersfield opened the doors of agricultural opportunities for him. He was a member of the Casa Loma 4-H and the South High School FFA Chapter.
Dr. Flores attended Bakersfield College, and he received a degree in Animal Science from Cal Poly. He student taught at Hanford High School, followed by five years of teaching at San Benito High School in Hollister before coming to Cal Poly. He earned a Ph.D. in Agricultural Education from Texas A&M University.
Teaching in the Agricultural Education & Communication Department is “a dream come true” for Dr. Flores. Satisfaction and accomplishment are words that describe the feeling he gets from working with faculty and staff committed to providing the best education possible, coupled with teaching quality students from all over California and beyond.
Dr. Flores and Sheryl have been married for 30 years. They have three sons: Marty (graduate of Cal Poly, AGB and MBA), Aaron (a freshman at Cal Poly), and Jacob (a sophomore in high school).
