Be sure to check back everyday!
Checked in and all that kind stuff.
Sunday! Day 2
Got up at 3:30! Went to opening ceremonies and learned there are almost 2,900 riders participating. We raised $11.1 million - a New Record!
It took awhile to get out of San Francisco with all those riders....had to breakout into small groups. Val's group was almost at the end, but we had a great ride down the coast!
Got into Santa Cruz between 4 PM and 5 PM. Am going to sleep!
Tomorrow's desitnation: King City!
Monday! Day 3
Sorry Folks! But Valerie did not call in on Monday! As soon as we hear from her, we'll post the news and deliver your e-mail to her.
Tuesday! Day 4
When Val first started this she thought calling in each day would be great! But now the reality of 3000 people trying to get to the limited phones simultaneously is setting in...so hang in there
So Val is having an absolutely wonderful time and has joined up with the most exceptional and kind people...she's drawing upon resources she didn't know that she had.
It's been challenging -- she's had 3 flats! -- and it's quite a thing traveling with 3000 people (700 crew in addition to the riders!). Last night was so windy, it blew tents out of the ground and she slept fully clothed...today started out 40 degrees, and reached 90 by the time they got to Paso Robles...Tomorrow: Oceano.
They've been to both the artichoke and pumpkin capitals of the world...and the salad bowl...can't wait to see what's next! She'll try to call tomorrow! Tune in next time...
Wednesday! Day 5
Today has been absolutely fabulous! We rode not quite 80 miles today. The weather has been absolutely superb!
Along the way today I was met by a group of friends waving signs...And later a group from Cal Poly came, waving a banner, and cheering me on. David was there too with flowers and encouragement. People have been marvelous along the way.
I'm taking time to enjoy the sea breeze and ocean...tonight I might even take in some entertainment! Lompoc tomorrow!
