About Stan Yoshinobu
Short Bio : I am is an associate professor in the Department of Mathematics. My area of specialization is Mathematics Education, especially collegiate Mathematics Education. I have been studying how students learn Mathematics, working with K-12 teachers, and helping college professors and instructors learn to implement inquiry-based methods. I am also the Director of The Academy of Inquiry-Based Learning. I received my Ph.D. in Mathematics from UCLA in the area of Real Analysis and Harmonic Analysis, studying under the guidance of John Garnett .After graduating from UCLA I was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Arizona from 2000-2002 in the Department of Mathematics . At Arizona I transitioned from being a research mathematician to becoming a specialist in Mathematics Education, with a focus on teaching and learning issues at the college level.
My next job was in Carson, CA at Cal State Dominguez Hills , where I was an associate professor in the Department of Mathematics. At CSUDH, I worked closely with the local K-12 school districts as well as training college-level faculty in using Inquiry-Based Learning.
Current: My Cal Poly career began in fall 2009, hired as a Mathematics Education specialist. My current scholarly interests include improving instruction in K-12 and college-level math courses, training inservice and preservice teachers, developing inquiry-based curricula, and publishing articles in related fields.
