Dr. Winebrenner has been Department Chair since 2007. In addition to his department administrative duties, he is the Director of Cal Poly Debate. Dr. Winebrenner is a former national president, vice-president, and treasurer for the Cross Examination Debate Association, and twice served on the judging panel for the CEDA national championship debate. He served as general editor of the scholarly journal Contemporary Argumentation and Debate, edited Intercollegiate Forensics, a competitive speech activities textbook, and has been published essays and scholarly articles in several argumentation journals. His special interests are advocacy training and studying the rhetorical dimensions of popular culture. Dr. Winebrenner was the department's 1996 Teacher of the Year.
