Dr. McDermott is the department's specialist in intercultural communication. He has published numerous book chapters and articles on survey research methods, acculturation processes, and mass media effects, and is co-author of the textbook Communication Research. Dr. McDermott was named an Outstanding Teacher for the College of Liberal Arts in 1997, and was the department's 1991 Teacher of the Year.
