Welcome New Students

Dear Prospective Student,
We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on being admitted to Cal Poly, which is indeed an honor since so few that apply are recognized for such academic excellence.
We would also like to invite you to be a part of the schools Black clubs on campus, the Society of Black Engineers and Scientists (SBES), which is a proud chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). Our club is open to everyone that is interested, regardless of race, ethnicity or academic major. Although SBES is primarily for Engineering and Science based majors, we welcome all other majors as we have links to many other resources on campus for all students.

In order to meet some of the financial obligations of the club we require a fee of $10 per year to become a member of our chapter (SBES). This small fee allows you to eligible for our many scholarship opportunities and club prizes in addition to receiving an official Cal Poly SBES t-shirt. An additional $10 per year is required to be a member of the national organization NSBE. This is highly recommended in order to attend conferences and be part of a larger networking circle that provides opportunities for professional development, academic seminars, internships and jobs upon graduation. California Polytechnic State University is one of the most prestigious as well as challenging state universities in the nation. We would like you to know that you always have the support and encouragement of our SBES family. Our first meeting will be held during the second week of Fall quarter. We will post information at the MEP-building 40, in the Multicultural Center in the University Union and on bulletin boards around campus.
