Managed a department with an annual budget of approximately $2,000,000; two undergraduate and two graduate programs; with 300 undergraduate and 30 graduate students; fifteen full-time faculty members, seven part-time lecturers, and five staff members; for two successive terms – maximum limit .

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity (degrees awarded to women rose 30% from 1996 to 2000; 60% of new faculty hired during this term are members of various minority groups)
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement - led accreditation activities that resulted with full (six year) accreditation of both undergraduate programs
  • Demonstrated commitment to graduate education (two new graduate programs were initiated, number of graduate students increased from 2 to 40 during my term)
  • Demonstrated commitment to fundraising - Formed a functioning industrial advisory board including members from key industry in California , members of which contributed $350,000 in cash in two years; secured equipment donation, valued at $800,000
