We just need your name, address, & basic info and you will be an instant Running Thunder member. Before there was Openmail, there was an email system that had many names. Most commonly known as Polymail, it was also called UNIX mail, pine, polylog1, POP, and a million other things. That mail system still exists. We'll come back to that in a sec. When you send a message to anyone@calpoly.edu, it is always sent (forwarded) to some other email address. For most people, it gets sent to their Openmail email account (some crazy address like Joe_Blow_A/cpslo_student5@blah......) If you were here before Openmail and never signed up for Openmail, then it gets sent to your Polymail email account (anyone@polymail.calpoly.edu). In the old days, no one really knew what their real email address was. Only faculty & staff could have short email addresses like rretting@calpoly.edu. There were lots of possibilities and most of them worked, but what was the right one? Some of mine included rretting@oboe.calpoly.edu, rretting@oboe.aix.calpoly.edu, rretting@rubens.artisian.calpoly.edu, rretting@polymail.calpoly.edu, rretting@polymail.cpunix.calpoly.edu, rretting@trumpet.calpoly.edu, you get the picture. The rretting@polymail.calpoly.edu eventually became the common one that most people used. So to put this whole puzzle together... Most people only check one of the email systems. If you only check Openmail, you will not receive any mail sent to you@polymail.calpoly.edu . If someone swore that they send you an email and you never received it, this is why. There's probably a pile of lost emails here. And vice versa, if you use Outlook Express, you might only be checking mail sent to you@polymail.calpoly.edu . Any email sent to you@calpoly.edu is probably getting sent to your openmail account. Solution? Choose one system and have the other one forward all of your mail to the system you use. How? Send me an email at rretting@calpoly.edu and I'll help you out. So why is this in Hoofprints? Hoofprints Electronified is sent to many email addresses including Openmail and Polymail addresses. If you want it sent to a certain address, just let me know (rtclub@polymail.calpoly.edu) and I'll fix it. Many people have moved from Polymail to Openmail and have not updated their email address. Unless it is properly forwarded, you may be missing out on Hoofprints and other important mail. We at Running Thunder are here to help! ======================== >>>>>> Next Week's Hoofprints Electronified ======================== Next week, it's Poker Night on Wednesday @ 7pm in the Green Room upstairs in Mott Gym. Also another football game and more! More info to come! Thanks for reading.
