Running Thunder is Cal Poly's one and only spirit club. We work together with the Poly Pep Band and the Cheer Squad to get the crowds hyped up and to bolster Cal Poly Pride and Spirit. We are also the only student club that involves its members in everything that San Luis Obispo has to offer. We are essentially a social club with a heavy emphasis on crazy spirit and wild times. If all this stuff sounds great to you then sign-up right now!
- Football Games
Have you ever been to a Cal Poly football? Have you seen the green-faced crazies in the student section? That's us. Don your wild green and gold and come join us rooting for the Mustangs as we battle our way through the Big West as an NCAA division 1-AA team. This years line up includes a host of top programs in division 1-AA, as well as our arch rival UC Davis!
- Basketball Games
Come kick up some Mott Mania in Mott Gym while we smash what competition the Big West Division can dig up for us. The gym has recently been remodeled and Running Thunder is there to test the strength of the bleachers and the referees eardrums!
- Road Trips
Periodically we find it absolutely necessary to travel with our beloved teams and badmouth the referees in other peoples stadiums, lest they begin to think that is only at Poly where bad calls are not tolerated! Either that or we just like an excuse to party somewhere else. The unspoken rule is that if either football or basket make it to the playoffs then we will travel there to offer up our support.
- The Poly P
Running Thunder is the official caretaker of the Cal Poly P. We proudly paint the P and light it up for every home football game with help from Sand's Liquor & Deli. For information on obtaining keys and form 81 signatures please contact us after reviewing the "P" Regulations.
- Tahoe
Trip
Each winter we make a pilgrimage up to South Lake
Tahoe for some fun in the snow, skiing, and casino action.
This is very possibly one of the most fun activities that
Running Thunder does each year.
- Mardi Gras Parade
Our parade here in San Luis Obispo is the largest Mardi Gras celebration outside of New Orleans. This time of year is quite appropriate for a trip over to Bon Temps Creole Cafe for some of the best Cajun food around. Running Thunder is the only student club invited to have a float in the annual Mardi Gras parade. The parade is always followed up by a massive costume ball party.
- Wildflower
Triathlon
Running Thunder is the sponsoring club of Wildflower,
the world's second largest triathlon. A lot of work for
all the volunteers, but also a whole lot of fun. By day
we man an aid station and by night we party to live bands
and DJ's mixing it up right on the shores of Lake San
Antonio.
- Community Service
Running Thunder participates events like 24 Hour Relay to raise money for local charities. The relay is a time to run, dress wacky, eat free food, and simply have fun while raising money for Friday Night Live.
