Extramural Funding Initiative (EFI)
The Extramural Funding Initiative (EFI) provides opportunities for faculty members to pursue research and scholarly activities in addition to teaching. Each year, the Initiative provides funding to support faculty in the development of proposals for extramural funding. The results of this particular investment in faculty development are intended to maximize subsequent successes in gaining external funding in support of scholarly work.
All faculty are eligible to apply. However, these resources will be focused on newly hired faculty, to support their establishment of scholarly programs, or on more established faculty seeking to open new scholarly directions. Projects that are selected for funding must have the potential to attract significant extramural funding and form the basis for a long-term effort to be funded. Priority will be given to projects with the most potential for success and those that more closely align with major college/campus initiatives.
The EFI awards for 2014 have been announced. The Office of Research and Economic Development will not be providing EFI awards in 2015. This program is being replaced by the Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activities Program.
