Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I become an official member?
Fritz: Official membership in the PlantSci Club is open to all students, faculty, staff, and alumni of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and will involve investing one hour per week per quarter in Club-related activities. The easiest way of earning membership hours will be to simply spend an hour each week at the Plant Conservatory with the door open and the sign outside so anyone can visit while you're there. Right now, the Conservatory's hours are irregular at best, so "staffing" will allow us to keep the door open at regular times during the week. You won't need to know much about plants to do this -- heck you could even study or chill during that hour! We hope you'll want to get involved with the many happenings going on at the Conservatory, but we'll be happy for you to simply BE THERE for visitors to stop by without finding a locked door. Even in the worst case, you won't have to answer any questions except by saying, "I don't know, I'm still learning about these plants, myself". As you learn more, you can share more with visitors as you wish.

Q: Are there other ways to keep updated with the club's activities?
A: Yes, you can join the mailing list. Just click on the link, send an e-mail and you're set! There's also a facebook group.

Q: I'm not a bio or plant related major, can I still join?
A: We're an interdisciplinary club and love to learn about all different aspects of plants. In other words, as long as you have a special little place in your heart for plants, you're welcomed! :D

Q: What kind of leaves are featured on the site layout?
A: Those are papaya leaves. That very papaya tree can be found in the Cal Poly Plant Conservatory, you should go check it out!

Q: Where is the Cal Poly Plant Conservatory?
A: It is located next to Science North (building 53). Just go up that rugged incline path where there's always some cars parked outside and you're there.

Q: When is the Cal Poly Plant Conservatory open?
A: If the door is open, come on in! We're currently working on regular staffing schedules...
