About Us...in the words of club founder, Fritz Light

The PlantSci Club exists for several basic purposes:

* To provide a forum and community for Cal Poly students, faculty, staff, and alumni to share a common interests in all plant life.
* To provide hands-on, extra-curricular opportunities for students in plant science courses and majors to complement their in-class experiences.
* To create interdisciplinary associations and relationships centered on plants and the plant sciences, research, and technologies.
* To provide tutoring and financial assistance for students in plant-science-related courses and majors.
* To educate local and global communities on the wonders and importance of plants as quantified through the plant sciences.
* To connect the Cal Poly Plant Conservatory with the greater Cal Poly and broader community.
* To conduct the Conservatory's daily operations and provide members with opportunities to hold positions of various status at the Conservatory.

In English, that all means that we strive to share a common interest in plants and how they benefit people, to have fun while we're doing this, and to help bring the Plant Conservatory to the attention of the rest of campus.

It will take time to get rolling with everything in the above list, but in the short-term, we'll be planning some cool hands-on events for the upcoming quarter, as well as several fascinating speakers to be announced soon. We're looking into several possible field trips (day-trips or perhaps longer-distance) to appreciate plants in "the wild" or at some of our state's world-class botanical gardens, arboretums (okay, arboreta!), and local/state/national parks.

Lastly, if you'd like to donate your financial assistance to the Cal Poly Plant Science Club, please contact me, Fritz Light or Dr. Matt Ritter, CPPSC faculty advisor, and we'll be glad to help you help us out!
