B.A. Music, Fresno State University; M.M. Composition, Chico State University

While at Cal Poly (1968-2005), John Russell taught composition, theory, and piano. His original works are published by Associated Music, G. Schirmer, and E. B. Marks, New York; The Gregorian Institute of America, Chicago; Walton Music, Ltd, London. A former piano student of pianist Adolph Baller, Russell has been a member of the Cal Poly Music Faculty since 1968. He founded the Mozart Festival Singers in 1971 and served as conductor until 1980. He is the recipient of Cal Poly's Distinguished Teaching Award, 1996.
