RSVP XXI: 'Evangeline'
Tuesday and Wednesday, May 31 and June 1, 2016
8 p.m., Pavilion, Performing Arts Center
This marks the 21st season of this diverse transmedia series celebrating electroacoustic diversity and compositional risk. For the first time in its production history, RSVP will raise a full-length contemporary ballet. Inspired by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's great poem, "Evangeline," the music and dance tell a timeless story of profound love tested to the point of heroic virtue. Wadsworth's romantic impression of the Acadian Deportation is revised in light of more recent historical resources and a layer of new, timely meaning and questions.
