Cal Poly Long Distance Running Camp

July 9 - July 14, 2000


Living Accomodations

Participants will reside in residence halls on campus under the supervision of adults. Youth male and female participants will be assigned to seperate floors. Participants will enjoy meals in a group setting utilizing the cafeteria. Special vegetarian pla tes will be offered for those who do not eat meat at each meal.

Location - Climate - Transportation

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo is located approximatley 200 miles north of Los Angeles and 230 miles south of San Francisco. Sn Luis Obispo enjoys a mild coastal climate with an average high temerature of 72 degrees. The campus is accessible via Highway 101 and through extensive bus service from San Luis Obispo Airport and Amtrak Station. A shuttle service will be provided from these location to the camp.

Typical Schedule

The camp will be of nature that the novice and experienced runner can recieve optimal benefits. Men and women will be set up in groups during workouts according to age and ability.

Boarding Camp July 9 - July 14, Ages 12+

6:00am	Rise and Shine (assemble and stretch)
6:30am	Easy morning run (2-6 miles)
7:30am	Breakfast
9:00am	Discussion (diet, injuries, shoes, running programs, etc.)
10:00am	Track and/or Steeplchase lessons (form, intervals, hills, etc..)
12:00pm	Lunch
12:30pm	Free Time (swimming, shopping, letter writing, etc..)
2:00pm	Afternoon run (4-12 miles on trails) or cross training.
5:30pm	Dinner
7:00pm	Evening Discussion and movie.
10:00pm	Lights out!

Camp Sessions will begin with check-in at 2:00pm. Sunday July 9th and will conclude at 2:00pm on Friday July 14th. The total for the Camp is $400 for non-commuting participants and $250 for commuting. A non-refundable deposit of $150 id due by June 26, 2000 and the final payment us due at check-in on July 9th.


Attendance Requirements

Minimum age for attendance is 12 years of age, unless accompanied by a parent or coach. Aspiring distance runners of all ages are encouraged to attend. The camp caters to those who wish to drastically improve their potential on the track, cross country co urse, and roads, regardless of current running abilities. Coaches accompanied by 7 or more team members will receive a discount on room and board in return for acting as counselors. All applications must be received together to get the discount. Enrollmen t is limited to provide better instruction and participation.

Camp Director & Staff

Director Mark Conover will head his first summer camp. A member of the 1988 U.S. Olympic team in the marathon, Mark is the assistant Cross Country and Track coach at Cal Poly. He was a nine-time NCAA All American in Cross Country and Track.

Additional counseling from other former All Americans, nationally ranked men and women distance runners, Olympians and prominant coaches will be provided.
