2007-2008 MCAA Student Summit
About 200 attendees--including student chapter members, faculty advisors, local association executives and staff, and contractors--came to MCAA's 2007 Student Chapter Summit to learn, network, and compete. The event opened with welcome remarks by Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson and a presentation by MCAA President Dave Kruse about the career opportunities emerging through our industry's embracing of green and sustainable construction. Students competed in the annual mini competition, a favorite annual event. The 2007-2008 Student Chapter Competition was announced, the expansion of J.F. Ahern's headquarters in Fond du Lac, WI, with green and sustainable construction features. The tour of the UA Local 120/MCA of Cleveland Joint Apprenticeship Training Center gave most students a first look at how pipe is fitted, welded, installed and tested. Capping the event was an evening at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. (Text taken from www.MCAA.org/careers)

2006-2007 MCAA Wins National Student Competition!
As one of four finalists in the 2007 National MCAA Student Chapter competition in Orlando, Florida, Cal Poly MCAA demonstrated mechanical system expertise as they presented their innovative design-build proposal to a panel of judge’s only to exceed expectations and return home National Champions!
Out of the twenty colleges who competed, Georgia Tech was the runner up along with Oregon State and the University of Nebraska- Lincoln as the other two finalists. The competition asked each competing student chapter to design, schedule, and estimate the mechanical and plumbing system for the retrofitting of the historical 20 story commercial Dallas Power and Light Building into high-end condominiums. Due to the design-build nature, the project was a great challenge for the competing chapters this year.
