Faculty Positions in Mathematics

Part-Time Lecturer Recruitment

The Mathematics Department, within the College of Science and Mathematics, is seeking applications for part-time lecturers with positions available as determined by need during the 2009-2010 academic year. Positions are often not available until shortly before the start of the quarter. Responsibilities include teaching lower division mathematics courses. Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and time base.

Apply to requisition #101924 at Cal Poly Jobs and complete/submit the required online faculty application. Include with the online application the following in PDF format: resume/curriculum vitae (with teaching experience), unofficial transcripts (acceptable initially), and three letters of recommendation. Unofficial transcripts and three letters of recommendation can also be mailed to: Part-Time Recruitment, Mathematics Department, Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, CA 93407-0403. Official transcripts will be required prior to appointment. For consideration to teach Fall 2009, submit application by 7/31/09; to teach Winter 2010, submit application by 12/1/09; to teach Spring 2010, submit application by 3/1/10. The Mathematics Department does not offer any courses in statistics or computer science. Applicants interested in part-time teaching in those areas should contact the Statistics Department or the Computer Science Department.

The Department

The Mathematics Department offers classes ranging from Algebra I through graduate courses. There are approximately 150 sections of math classes each quarter with an average enrollment of 30 per class. The faculty consists of approximately 30 permanent faculty, 20 temporary (both full-time and part-time), and 10 graduate teaching associates. The Mathematics Department has over 200 undergraduate majors and a small master's degree program.
