:: Financial Aid & Scholarships ::
Students participating in Cal Poly sponsored study abroad programs, such as the Summer Study in London Program, may be eligible for financial aid through Cal Poly. However, students attending the summer quarter will have limited eligibility if they borrowed their maximum annual loan amount. The Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) may be a financial aid option.
Financial aid is determined after spring quarter grades are posted. Students are advised to budget wisely throughout the academic year and plan ahead for study abroad costs. Students are encouraged to speak with a Cal Poly Financial Aid Counselor for additional information.
To find out more information about how financial aid can be used to finance your study abroad experience, please contact the Financial Aid office at 805.756.2927 or you can visit the office in the Administration Bldg 1 Rm 212. The Financial Aid web address is http://www.ess.calpoly.edu/_finaid/
Each year several scholarships, ranging from $500-$1,000 are awarded to qualified scholarship applicants who are accepted into the London Study Program. The scholarships are funded from two different sources and have somewhat different criteria.
The scholarships are always based on financial need and other factors such as demonstrated initiative in helping oneself and academic excellence. Specific criteria apply to individual awards based on guidelines established by various donors.
The scholarships are funded from two different sources and have somewhat different criteria. The various sponsors of the endowments seek recipients who meet specialized requirements. You may apply for the Jon M. Ericson award. If you wish to be considered for the Michael Köehn scholarship, you need to explain in your written comments how you met the particular criteria indicated below.
The two scholarships are:
-
Jon M. Ericson Founders Endowment for the London Study Program
Approximately one to two scholarships are awarded named after former Dean Jon M. Ericson, the founder and for the twelve years the Director of the London Study Program. Financial need is the main criterion for selection, along with demonstrated initiative in helping oneself.
-
Michael Köehn London Study Memorial Scholarship Endowment
Approximately one to two scholarships are awarded named in memory of Michael Koehn, an exceptional student who took part in the spring 1997 London Study Program. The program was a major opportunity for growth in Michael’s short life. The endowment is largely funded by contributions from Michael’s family and friends. Criterion include demonstrated need and demonstrated artistic talent, which may be expressed through music, drama, dance, the visual arts, or other artistic forms.
The two scholarships are open to a variety of students with different backgrounds, accomplishments, and skills. In the essay portion of your application, be sure to explain how you meet the criteria for the scholarship(s) for which you are applying.
