Bio ::
Dr. Luanne Fose is a graduate of Point
Loma Nazarene University, where she obtained
a Bachelor of Arts in 1981 with a double major in Music
Theory and Music Education. She continued her education
at Indiana
University where she received
the Masters of Music degree in Music Theory and Trombone
Performance in 1983. At Indiana University, Dr. Fose
taught music theory and ear training courses to undergraduates,
serving as an Associate Instructor. It was during her
studies with Gary
Wittlich at Indiana that
she became interested in Computer-Assisted Instruction
(CAI) and writing computer music software.
As
a result of this interest in CAI, Dr. Fose decided to
attend the University
of North Texas for her doctorate degree.
In the 1980s there were many new developments happening
at UNT in this unchartered field. During her studies
at UNT, Dr. Fose co-wrote the 10-disk music software
package to accompany the text book
Basic
Ear Training Skills written by Dr.
Robert Ottman and Dr. Paul Dworak. This software package
was published by Prentice-Hall
in the early 1990s. While attending UNT, Dr. Fose
served as a Teaching Fellow and taught various courses
in music theory and ear training. Besides her interests
in CAI, during her tenure at UNT Dr. Fose also studied
Medieval/Renaissance music under the UNT music faculty,
private Latin with Professor Barbara Huggins, and cello
performance with Dr. Carter Enyeart. In 1992 she graduated
from UNT with a Ph.D. in Music Theory and a minor in
Musicology. For more information on Dr. Fose's doctoral
dissertation, The
Musica Practica of Bartolomeo Ramos de Pareia: A Critical
Translation and Commentary,

Dissertations in Musicology Online Catalog.
Dr. Fose has taught on the music faculty of Point
Loma Nazarene University,
the University
of San Diego, and San
Diego State University. In 1999 she served
as the music director/organist of Mission Hills United
Methodist Church. She created several online distance
learning courses for Extended Education at San Diego
State University and taught Music Technology
104 and 204 online at SDSU in the Spring of 2001.
In July 2001, Dr. Fose accepted the position of Instructional
Designer/Information Technology Consultant for Information
Technology Services at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo,
California. In this position, Dr. Fose serves as the
pedagogical technologist for the campus, teaching
faculty in workshops or one-on-one consultations and
assisting faculty in design/pedagogical strategies
to teach more effectively with Learning Management
Systems such as Blackboard, discipline-specific courseware
projects, and hybrid on-campus/web-assisted courses.
In 2006, Dr. Fose was transferred to assist in the
development of the
Center
for Teaching and Learning, where she
had served as a guest speaker for many years.
Dr. Fose frequently leads workshops on using music technology
in music education at music conferences and universities
throughout the country. She is very active in her community
as a pianist/organist, trombonist, composer, music director,
and music technology consultant AND she spends a great
deal of her time making music, playing with technology,
and surfing in Morro Bay!
