A variety of techniques will be used in the course. Many guest speakers will be invited to talk with the class. Field trips are planned for nearly every Friday, including two trips off campus. You are strongly encouraged to make plans to attend both field trips even though they take more time than the one hour normally dedicated to AG 301. It is your obligation to know where the class is meeting every Friday and be up to date on any changes. Your attendance is highly recommended on Mondays and Wednesdays. On Fridays, your attendance is more than recommended, it is rewarded. Attendance is recorded on Fridays and it is your responsibility to sign in or be checked off each Friday.
After each Friday visit, a one-page type-written, single spaced report shall be turned in at the beginning of the following Wednesday lecture. Please double space between the paragraphs of the report. Your report shall be a reaction paper, not a review of facts and figures. Please indicate your impressions, feelings, and how this visit increased your understanding or changed your perception about agriculture. If you cannot visit a unit, you need not submit a report. Late reports will receive a deduction of one point, per day late. Reports can ONLY be two days late.
In addition to visiting the units on Fridays, a very special "debate" will be held during the quarter. You will be expected to do some preparation prior to this event, submit a "log" of your activities and a reaction paper. This is a critical component to AG 301 and more information will be provided as the date approaches.
Grading for the course will be based upon the following:Exams questions will come from the lectures and Friday trips. The character of the exams will be mutiple choice, true-false and short answer type questions. Short pop quizzes may be given at any time. There will be one opportunity to make up a Friday trip and it will be announced at a later time.
