Starting time of service interruption: 8:00 AM
Ending time of service interruption: 5:00 PM
Central UNIX is being taken down during this time period to install new hardware and apply firmware upgrades on the fileserver. HP contract requirements make it desirable to do both upgrade items on Sunday to avoid downtime on a weekday.
All Central UNIX users will be affected by this downtime.
NOTE: Access to the modem pool and the Internet should not be affected by this outage with the exception of access to the Cal Poly Web and Gopher information servers.
All Central UNIX services will be shut down during this time. These services include, but are not limited to:
- Email to and from the system will be delayed during this downtime.
- POP mail services (pop.calpoly.edu incoming pop mail server)
- SMTP services (smtp.calpoly.edu and mail.calpoly.edu outgoing mail services)
- User logins to the Central UNIX cluster
- Cal Poly Web and Gopher information servers (departmental servers with machine addresses other than www.calpoly.edu or gopher.calpoly.edu may still be available)
Revised by: George Westlund (gwestlun@calpoly.edu)Users attempting to login to Central UNIX will find that their sessions are refused during this time. They must wait until the system is available again before attempting to login.
Users of other systems sending email to a Central UNIX account may receive a warning of delayed delivery. If you receive such a warning, do not resend the message, it will be queued on the sending system for later delivery when Central UNIX returns to service.
Users pointing to smtp.calpoly.edu or mail.calpoly.edu for outgoing mail services will experience an inability to make the connection to send their mail during this time.
POP users wishing to look at their mail will experience an inability to connect to the server during this time.
Users attempting to access the Web or Gopher information servers will find that they are unable to connect to the servers during this time period.
