Migrate Mail Services from Temporary Machine After Mail Service Machine has been Upgraded.

Starting time of service interruption: 8:00 AM
Ending time of service interruption: 5:00 PM

NOTE: This is a postponed event originally scheduled for March 16.

What is the Reason for this Service Interruption?

The Mail Service Machine will have been upgraded to increase its throughput. Specifically it is scheduled to have both hardware and software upgrades applied. These upgrades include

Because of these upgrades, and the down time required to perform them, Mail Services were moved to a temporary site for several weeks. When the upgrade is completed, the service will be moved back to the original site.

Who is Affected by this Service Interruption?

All users will be affected. In order to preserve data integrity, users will not be allowed to login to the system during this time.

What Services will be Unavailable?

All services will be unavailable during this time period.

What will Users See as a Result of this Service Interruption?

There should be no lost mail as a result of this outage! However, incoming mail will be delayed on Sunday, April 6.

Mail which cannot be delivered from other systems during the service interruption period will be queued by the sending machine. Most machines queue their outgoing mail for at least three days, trying every half-hour or so to deliver to the target address. If the target address remains unavailable for longer than this time period, mail is then bounced back to the sending user (not likely during this outage because of its limited duration). Some machines also send a warning message to the sender indicating that the mail is delayed and that the sending system will continue trying until its maximum waiting period is over.
