The Student Information System User group (SISU) has announced the
avail- ability of OPEN CLASS Information over the Cal Poly News Network
(CPNN), a joint project involving Academic Computing Services and
Administrative Systems. This means that prior to accessing CAPTURE,
any student can obtain OPEN CLASS information by simply typing in
"cpnn" on any terminal in a terminal lab at the CALPOLY> prompt. An
account is NOT necessary, however, users with AIX accounts can access
CPNN within AIX by entering "cpnn" at the system prompt. Students with
accounts on AIX will have faster response if they access CPNN after
logging into their account.

After typing in "cpnn" and pressing ENTER, the "CPNN" main menu will
appear, and the OPEN CLASS LIST option will be displayed near the
bottom of the right hand column. When the cursor is moved to this
option and ENTER is pressed again, the latest open class list will be
displayed. Available enrollment information will be displayed 24 hours
a day, and will be updated hourly when CAPTURE is active. In addition
to available seats, course/section, activity type, call number, section
name, day and time data will be displayed. To locate appropriate data,
use the "FIND" or "COMMAND" lines at the bottom of the screen. Move
the cursor to a "COMMAND" such as "FORWARD", and press "ENTER" to move
ahead one screen (you can get the same results by entering the first
letter of the command, i.e., f=forward, b=backward, etc., and pressing
ENTER). A search for a class can be made by typing the class
information on the "FIND" line, e.g.,"ENGL0114" and pressing "ENTER."
This will list all open sections of ENGL0114. To exit the system, move
the cursor to "EXIT CPNN" and press "ENTER." Those who are not using an
AIX account must follow the instructions on the screen to disconnect
from CPNN.

For those individuals with PROF's accounts, the same data can be
accessed at the main PROF's menu (A00) by following the same
instructions. Be aware that not all of the CPNN options are
operational at this time; you may get a message such as, "The document
you requested is not currently available." In time, these and other
options will be added to CPNN.

Problems with CPNN should be mailed to "cpnn@nike.calpoly.edu".
Suggestions on the open class list should be directed to Student
Records.

The SISU group is confident this OPEN CLASS data will facilitate the
location and access to courses through CAPTURE and lessen the search
time now required while attempting to register. We ask that you assist
us in dessiminating this information to all students. Thank you.
