Hypermail 2b29

A new Y2K compliant version of hypermail, 2b29, has been installed on
the system as "hypermail".  The old hypermail software has been
disabled.  Please read the rest of this message carefully if you have
been using or are going to use hypermail.

The old version of hypermail is not Y2K compliant.  It no longer
processes any new messages; instead when it tries to read a new message
it gets caught in a loop.

The new version of hypermail is now available as "hypermail"
(/usr/local/bin/hypermail).  IT IS NOT BACKWARD COMPATIBLE WITH OLD
ARCHIVES.  As a result, processing an old archive with the new software
can lead to unpredictable results.

Hypermail users should convert their old archives back to mbox format,
if they don't have a copy already in that format, with the hypetombox.pl
utility.

Take these steps to use the old hypermail archive with the new version
of hypermail:

1.      Locate the directory that contains the old archive, positioning
        yourself in the directory above that directory.

2.      Convert the old archive to mbox format by running the command

        hypetombox.pl -d hypermail_archive_directory -m new_mbox_file

        where "hypermail_archive_directory" is the name of the directory
        and " new_mbox_file" is the name of the mbox formatted file to
        be created in the current directory.

3.      Delete the contents of the old directory by issuing the command

        rm -fr hypermail_archive_directory/*

        This  should prevent any collisions on the next step.

4.      Process the new mbox file you created in step 2 with the new
        version of hypermail

        hypermail -px -m new_mbox_file -d hypermail_archive_directory

This replaces the old archive with a newer archive formatted for use
with hypermail version 2b29 as well as creates a backup mbox file of the
archive (new_mbox_file) which may be kept for future use or deleted.
