As part of a scheduled move, the first of the remaining IBM PS/2 sites in the old AIX cluster will be removed from the cluster no later than February 5th, 1993. The two sites targeted for removal at that time will be "iris" and "nyx". Based on the results of their removal, additional units will be removed until only one or two are left in the cluster. The file systems currently mounted via the PS/2s will have their mount points moved to zeus. Connecting to the old system names will result in you being connected to zeus. What follows is a table of old system names and where the user should find their files now: Old Site Name New Site Name File System Name ------------- ------------- ------------------------- zeus cymbal /u1a,/u1b,/u1c,/u2,/u3 zeus flute /u21 zeus trumpet /u21 zeus tuba /u21 hermes cymbal /u2 ares cymbal /u3 athena flute /u4 demeter tuba /u5 eros trumpet /u6 hypnos flute /u7 morpheus tuba /u8 nemesis trumpet /u9 nike flute /u10 pan tuba /u11 eos trumpet /u12 hebe flute /u13 iris tuba /u14 nyx trumpet /u15 poseidon (see zeus) hera (see zeus) Our intention is to remove all of the PS/2s except one before the end of Winter quarter 1993. The only reason users should be currently using the old system is: o NETNews, which should be installed on the RISC/6000 systems in February. o Software which hasn't been converted to the 6000s yet (not very many at this point as far as the majority of users are concerned). o Games. The games administrators will be receiving instructions on a course for converting various packages from the old system to the new system sometime during the Winter quarter, 1993. The AIX site "pan" has being removed from the cluster already as a result of a hardware problem that would require several staff hours to repair. Instead of performing the repair, the unit has been removed from the cluster and it's mounted file systems will have their mount points moved to zeus. (remember the actual user files were moved to the RISC/6000 system "tuba", "pan" contains the NFS mount of the files from that RISC machine.) Users may continue to use the name "pan" when connecting, name service will transfer the connection to an appropriate network connection on the 370 system.
