AIX Site Removal and Login Site Suggestions With the migration from AIX to HP-UX underway, users need to be aware of the schedule for the departing AIX machines. Currently, two machines are scheduled to be removed in the upcoming months. These are: cymbal June 1, 1997 Users attempting to connect to cymbal after the date of its removal will be rerouted to violin. Violin July 25, 1997 Users attempting to connect to violin or cymbal after this date will be rerouted to two of the remaining four machines. The remaining machines will be removed in the August through December time frame. NOTE: Cal Poly faculty, staff and students may now log into any AIX site of their choice with the exception of "oboe" which is still restricted. This allows the user to choose between any existing site such as cymbal, flute, harp, trumpet, tuba and violin. The HP session server is one of the next machines scheduled to be brought into production status after the migration of mail back to the production server from its temporary site on Saturday, June 21, 1997. As the session server (and the software on it) becomes available, users will be encouraged to start using the HP machines instead of AIX. Users with concerns about the scheduling and its affect on upcoming courses and projects should contact User Support Services at 756-7000 or email "uss@polymail.calpoly.edu".
