The system is being taken down for End of Quarter Archives. End of Quarter Archives require that all users be off the system to ensure that the archival backup is a complete image of all of the files. Who is Affected by this Service Interruption? All users who use Central UNIX including Telnet, POP, IMAP, Web Services, and "OpenMail". "OpenMail" users should refer to the notes below for how this outage will affect them. What Services will be Affected and How? All services except Faculty/Staff OpenMail and OpenTime will be affected as noted: Service How Users will be affected OpenMail and OpenTime OpenMail and OpenTime for all users will be available. However: Mail to Faculty, Staff, and Students with OpenMail addresses will be delivered normally. IMAP and POP OpenMail clients (Netscape, Eudora, etc.) can connect to openmail1.calpoly.edu and openmail2.calpoly.edu, but cannot send any mail to anyone. Other mail to alias@calpoly.edu or mail to anyone@polymail.calpoly.edu will be delayed. Mail to all other addresses will be delivered. World Wide Web Users will not be able to access the Cal Poly home page or any other pages housed on Central UNIX (www.calpoly.edu). newemail Users will not be able to access "newemail.calpoly.edu" to create accounts or change passwords. UNIX Mail PINE, Elm and UNIX mail on Central UNIX will not be available POP Server Any pop client (Netscape, Eudora, etc.) pointing to pop.calpoly.edu will fail to connect. SMTP Mail Server Any mail client sending mail via smtp.calpoly.edu or mail.calpoly.edu will fail to connect. Central UNIX user login Users will not be able to connect sessions to polylog1. Xterminals Xterminals which are served via the Central UNIX cluster will be down. What is the Expected Outcome of this Service Interruption? A complete archive of the system and user files will be made.
