Starting time of service interruption: March 26, 5:00 PM Ending time of service interruption: March 28, 6:00 PM What is the Reason for this Service Interruption? A massive disk replacement on Central UNIX (moving to a new, larger EMC storage system), together with normal end-of-quarter data archiving, will necessitate this downtime at the end of quarter break. Who is Affected by this Service Interruption? All users are affected. Faculty and staff preparing for Spring Quarter need to take this downtime into account in their planning. What Services will be Affected and How? All Central UNIX services (email, Web, OpenTime, compilers, etc.) will be unavailable from 5 pm March 26 through 6pm March 28. Service How Users will be affected OpenMail and OpenTime OpenMail and OpenTime will be unavailable for the duration of the outage. In addition: Other mail to alias@calpoly.edu or mail to loginID@polymail.calpoly.edu will be delayed. Mail to all other addresses will be delivered. World Wide Web Users will not be able to access the Cal Poly home page or any other pages housed on Central UNIX (www.calpoly.edu). Gopher Users will not be able to access any gopher pages housed on Central UNIX (gopher.calpoly.edu). UNIX Mail PINE, Elm and UNIX mail on Central UNIX will not be available POP Server Any pop client (Netscape, Eudora, etc.) pointing to pop.calpoly.edu will fail to connect. SMTP Mail Server Any mail client sending mail via smtp.calpoly.edu or mail.calpoly.edu will fail to connect. Central UNIX user login Users will not be able to connect sessions to polylog1 or rodin. Xterminals Xterminals which are served via the Central UNIX cluster will be down. What is the Expected Outcome of this Service Interruption? Consolodated disk storage for Central UNIX.
