Sunday June 21, 1998 Web and Gopher Server Migration from AIX to HP-UX Starting time of service interruption: 6:00 AM Ending time of service interruption: 12:00 Noon What is the Reason for this Service Interruption? During the normally scheduled downtime, the Cal Poly Web and Gopher Servers will be migrated from their old AIX site to the new HP-UX Web Server. Who is Affected by this Service Interruption? No one will be able to access Web and Gopher pages. What Services will be Affected and How? Web and Gopher services and user web and gopher pages will be unavailable during this time. What is the Expected Outcome of this Service Interruption? We will be migrating from an older machine with a 16Megabit network connection to a new machine with four times the horsepower and a 100Megabit connection. We will also be upgrading from the old NCSA Web server software to the latest version of the Apache Web server. As a result, users should see a marked improvement in Web page response time from the Cal Poly Web server (www.calpoly.edu) and Gopher page response time from the Cal Poly Gopher server (gopher.calpoly.edu). Departmental Web quotas will also be increased within a week of the migration from 10 Megabytes to 30 Megabytes. For more detail on the Web Server migration see the 980621WebTest system news article and here for more details on the Gopher server migration see the 980621Gopher system news article.
