Mail Delivery Problems via Directory Server on March 9, 1998 There was a problem in delivery of electronic mail on March 9, 1998 between 10:00 AM and 10:20 AM. This problem was due to an attempt to migrate the Directory Server from an older AIX machine to one of the new Hewlett-Packard machines. Some of the mail sent to alias@calpoly.edu addresses during this time may have been returned to the sender (bounced). Users who mailed alias@calpoly.edu during the above timeframe would have received a bounced message from the mailer daemon indicating a "Local configuration error". Anyone who has received such a message will have to re-send the message that generated the bounce error. Until there is a resolution to the problem, all mail to alias@calpoly.edu is being directed back to the original Directory Server for delivery. Systems personnel are looking into the problem and hope to have a resolution later today so we can complete the migration. If we cannot resolve the problem today, the migration will be rescheduled to another date.
