Saturday August 30, 1997 Power Outage to Affect Building 14 (Computer Science) Starting time of service interruption: 5:30 AM Ending time of service interruption: 8:00 AM What is the Reason for this Service Interruption? ITS has been informed of a power outage that will occur between 6:00 AM and 8:00 AM on Saturday morning, August 30, 1997. The power outage will be of an undetermined duration. Machine room Un-interruptible Power Supplies (UPS) have a fifteen minute cycle limitation, with an unknown duration, its been deemed safer to take the system down. Who is Affected by this Service Interruption? All users. What Services will be Affected and How? All services including OpenMail and OpenTime will be unavailable during this time to allow for moving the filesystem. This filesystem affects many of the cluster services so these services will be unavailable during the migration to prevent loss of data. These services include, but are not limited to Service How Users will be affected OpenMail and OpenTime OpenMail and OpenTime will be unavailable. The Web interface for OpenMail will also be unavailable. All incoming mail from outside OpenMail will be delayed for the duration of the outage. World Wide Web Users won't see pages housed on the Cal Poly central web server (www.calpoly.edu) or links to pages that are referred to off of the central web server. Gopher Users will not be able to access documents on the Cal Poly gopher server. This includes pages referred to by other gopher and web servers. UNIX Mail PINE, Elm and UNIX mail on Central UNIX will not be available POP Server Any pop client (Netscape, Eudora, etc.) pointing to pop.calpoly.edu will be refused. SMTP Mail Server Any mail client sending mail via smtp.calpoly.edu or mail.calpoly.edu will be refused. Central UNIX user login Users will not be able to connect to sessions cymbal, flute, harp, trumpet, tuba, or violin. Xterminals Xterminals which are served via the Central UNIX cluster will be down. What is the Expected Outcome of this Service Interruption? No services will change as a result of this outage.
