Central UNIX Unavailable Saturday, June 21 through Sunday, June 22

What is the Reason for this Service Interruption?

All services on Central UNIX (AIX/HP) will be interrupted on Saturday,
June 21 starting at 8 a.m. and ending Sunday June 22, at 12:00 Noon, to
accommodate

o       Switching mail services back to the production machine from the
        temporary machine
o       Implementing quotas on the HP fileserver
o       Maintenance upgrades and patches

Incoming mail will be delayed during the upgrade.  There should be no
lost mail during this interruption, which will last from 8 a.m. on
Saturday until 12:00 Noon on Sunday.

NOTE:   This downtime was postponed from April 6 due to other events
        occurring within Central UNIX.

NOTE:   This is an extension of the normally scheduled Sunday down time
        of 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Who is affected by this service interruption?

All Central UNIX users will be affected.

What Services will be affected?

All users who use Central UNIX mail service will be affected (this
includes UNXI mail and OpenMail).
The Central Cal Poly Web and Gopher services will be unavailable during
this time period.
Users will not be able to log into the system during this time period.
Users of POPmail (Netscape and Eudora) can neither send nor receive
mail.

On Sunday June 22, a substitute computer will be removed from service
and the normal mail server will be put back into service.

Office Vision users sending mail to the UNIX system during this time may
receive a warning message that the mail to the UNIX system is delayed,
but the mail will eventually be delivered.

What will the users see as a result of this interruption?

The production mail server has been upgraded to newer, faster, CPUs and
will have a greater throughput capacity.

Quotas will be reactivated and users who are over quota will experience
difficulties in working with existing files if they do not cleanup their
accounts prior to the quotas being turned on.  Please refer to the
