Mail Interruption Sunday, March 2 Mail service on the Central UNIX system (AIX/HP) will be interrupted on Sunday, March 2 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., to accommodate upgrades to the HP computer that delivers mail. Incoming mail will be delayed during the upgrade, and usersŐ incoming mail folders (inboxes) will not be accessible. There should be no lost mail during this interruption, which will last from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. NOTE: This is an extension of the normally scheduled Sunday down time of 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. All users who use Central UNIX mail service will be affected. Users who log into the system will appear to have empty inboxes during this time period only. They will be able to read only saved mail. They may send mail, but mail to other users within the cluster is discouraged, since it will be delayed. Users of POPmail (Netscape and Eudora) can neither send nor receive mail. For more detailed information, see "http://www.calpoly.edu/~ias/hp-unix-system/". On Sunday March 2, a substitute computer will be put into service and the normal mail server will be freed up for upgrades which will continue over a couple of weeks. A subsequent interruption is planned for Sunday, March 16 to put the upgraded mail server back into production. Office Vision users sending mail to the UNIX system during this time may receive a warning message that the mail to the UNIX system is delayed, but the mail will eventually be delivered. Additional downtime is to be expected on yet to be determined days from March 26 through March 29 during quarter break. The system and all services associated with it will be totally unavailable during this time. More information will follow in a separate article in the near future.
