The filesystem on AIX which contains the system mail boxes for the user's became corrupt some time before 9:00 AM on Monday March 1, 1993. As a result, the mail filesystem is being restored from the Wednesday night backup, February 25, 1993, which was performed at 8:53 PM. Up until the filesystem is rebuilt and restored (sometime after 1:00 PM 3/1/93), the ability to receive mail has been shut off on the mail server. Shutting off the mail server will result in any mail attempting delivery after 9:00 AM on Monday morning March 1, 1993 to be deferred for up to three days. As a result any mail which has attempted delivery since Monday morning will be delivered when the filesystem is placed back on-line sometime Monday afternoon. All mail received between the Wednesday backup and approximately 9:00 AM on Monday which has not been saved to files in the users account has been lost without possibility of recovery. As a result, any mail sent to another AIX user between 8:50 PM on 2/25/93 and 9:00 AM on 3/1/93 should be resent. If you were expecting any mail from a user during this time, you should request that they resend it. We are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused and will continue to investigate the cause of the corrupted filesystem.
