California Golf Courses

Golf is a popular sport in America. It is played as a competitive sport as well as to relieve oneself from the pressures of work. It also helps one to maintain physical fitness. California, being one of the most populous States and as well a leading business centre, has many golf courses distributed among its various districts. Most of these golf courses are built to international standards and are used in championships like the PGA Championship.

Sunnyvale Golf Courses

The City of Sunnyvalehas two golf courses, the Sunnyvale Golf Course at Macara Avenue and the Sunken Gardens Golf Course at Wolfe Road. Both golf courses offer 27 challenging holes.

The Sunnyvale Golf Course has 18 holes, meticulously laid out over 6255 yards. It is a par 70 regulation course with many bunkers, water holes and dog legs and provides a challenge to the player's skill.

The Sunken Gardens Golf Course provides a good learning platform for someone learning to play golf. It is a 9-hole executive golf course stretching over 1502 yards. It has shorter length holes and many facilities where a new player can improve his skills. Here, golf clubs are provided at no extra charge in case a golfer requires them urgently. The range is well lit in case one wants to practice in the evenings. There are also range stalls available where one can practice or warm up before play.

San Diego Golf Courses

The park and recreation department of the City of San Diego administers three golf courses, the Torrey Pines, Balboa Park and the Mission Bay Golf Course.

The Torrey Pines Golf Complex is bordered by the mountains on the north and the Pacific Ocean in the west. The Golf Courses on the seaside provide a beautiful view of the coastline which is sometimes covered with sunshine, fog, chilling winds and rain. Torrey Pines has a 18 hole golf course and is well known as a PGA Tour stop. The annual Buick Invitational Championship is held there and has some of the top names in Golf taking part. The South Course has been selected as a venue for the U.S. Open Championship to be held in 2008. The Torrey Pines Golf Complex is ranked as the best place to play golf. It can accommodate around 40,000 people per day.

TheBalboa Park Golf Complexhas an 18-hole championship course stretching 6267 yards and a 9-hole executive course 2175 yards at par 32. All the tournaments here are at non resident rates. The maximum rates are not over $ 57 for the tournament, $20 for cart rental and $ 20 for club rental.

The Mission Bay Golf Course is located on North Mission Bay Drive. It is a very popular golf course among the locals. This is the Golf Course where Tiger Woods won a junior title. An estimated 100,000 rounds of golf are played on this course every year.

Long Beach Golf Courses

The City of Long Beach has five public golf courses operated by the American Golf Corporation. This city is considered to be the golf capital of Southern California with the golf courses designed to suit the style and taste of any golfer. The Recreation Park is a par 72, 18-hole golf course at Anaheim. The El Dorado is also a par 72, 18-hole golf course with numerous water hazards. The Skylinks with 18-holes is also a popular golf course.

Los Angeles Golf Courses

The City of Los Angeles has The Altadena Golf Course, The Lakes at El Segundo, The Sierra Meadows Golf, The Riviera Country Club, The Hillcrest Country Club, Cascades Golf Club at Rancho Vista and many others.

But there are also many other Golf Courses located at Shasta Cascade, North Coast, Gold County, San Francisco Bay Area, High Sierra, Deserts, Central Valley, Central Coast, Orange County, San Diego and other areas of California. California is truly a golfer's paradise.
