Les Ferreira Back to Faculty

General

Dr. Ferreira is currently serving as Head of the Dairy Science Department, and Director of the Dairy Product Technology Research Center at Cal Poly State University.
Dr. Ferreira was raised on a dairy farm in California, and was active in 4-H and FFA. He earned his Bachelors Degree from Cal Poly in Dairy Science, and went on to teach in the Dairy Vocational Program and work as the Dairy Herd Manager while he earned his Ph.D. in Reproductive Physiology at Utah State University.
Dr. Ferreira has been a Professor in the Dairy Science Department at Cal Poly for over 25 years, and is a recognised expert in his field of Reproductive Physiology and AI. He has coordinated numerous international dairy seminars, and has consulted to the industry in over 20 countries.

Current Courses

DSCI 330 Artificial Insemination (3)

Semen collection, evaluation processing and handling. Inseminating techniques. Fertility problems. Record keeping and measurements of reproductive efficiency. Endocrinology of reproduction. Estrous synchronization, embryo transfer and splitting of embryos. Ovarian structure and palpation of ovaries. 2 lectures, 1 laboratory. Prerequisite: DSCI 121 or consent of instructor.
