Exam Schedule
Exam 1 Friday October 5 In Class Exam 2 Friday October 26 In Class Exam 3 Friday November 16 In Class FINAL EXAM Monday December 3 10:10 AM - 1:00 PM Usually each in-quarter exam will cover the material up through what was assigned for the Tuesday just before the exam. You are responsible for all the material in the assigned sections of the text or in the corresponding lectures, unless your instructor specifically excludes something.Please make your end of quarter travel reservations early; a conflicting travel reservation is not a valid excuse for missing the final. If your parents are making your travel reservations, be sure they know your exam schedule before they do it.
Exam scores are posted on Blackboard under "Student Tools" when the grading is finished. Grading accurately and fairly takes some time, so please be patient.
Missed Exams
Legitimate excuses for missing an exam (such as verified illness or serious family emergencies) in all cases must be approved by Professor Dylan Retsek (Faculty Offices East, 305, 805-756-2072), preferably in advance. Unexcused absences from any exam receive a score of "0".
If you receive an excused absence for one of the in-semester exams, you will not take a make-up exam. Instead, a statistical formula called "multiple regression" will be used at the end of the semester to estimate your missing score based on your performance on the other three exams. (The formula is complicated, but it takes into account the average class score on each exam and how far above or below the average you were on each exam you did take. Therefore, you're not penalized if the exam you missed was one on which other students had high scores.)
Students who miss the final with an excuse will need to take a make-up final at another time, probably early in the winter quarter.
