Course Objectives

  1. Develop the terminology and notation used to deal with partial differential equations and boundary value problems.
  2. Study some of the physical systems that are modeled with partial differential equations.
  3. Learn how integral transforms are used to solve partial differential equations on unbounded domains.
  4. Learn how orthogonal expansions are used in the solution to boundary value problems for ordinary differential equations on bounded domains (The Method of Fourier Series).
  5. Develop the method of separation of variables as it applies to partial differential equations on bounded domains.
