Research and Teaching Interest
Land use policy, large scale land planning and design, strategic planning, feasibility, policy, and housing finance for low income communities.
Planning Experience
Internationally experienced land use planner and a nationally recognized planning educator.
Understands the land development process from public and private viewpoints and has special expertise in designing solutions to complex planning problems.
Holds appointments as an Academic member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), and a Faculty Associate of the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy.
Serves as an editorial Board Member of the Journal of American Planning Association (JAPA), the Journal of Planning Education and Research (JPER), the Journal of Architecture and Planning Research, and the Carta Economica Regional, Guadalajara, Mexico.
Before serving as the Cal Poly CRP Department Head, was a Professor of Planning and Director of the Center for Research & Research Development at the University of New Mexico.
Has held regular academic posts at the University of California, San Diego; Tuskegee Institute, Alabama; and Visiting Professorships at MIT and University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
International work includes consultancies on land policy, land information systems, housing and strategic planning for various ministries in Mexico, Chile, Columbia, and Cuba.
Is a charter member of the AICP, member of the APA, and served on the 1997 National Planning Awards Committee.
