History: The Cal Poly Hockey Club was founded in 1993 and has been competing in the WCRHL since 1995. Since then we have taken home 4 Regional titles including the 2003-2004 season. We have traveled across the nation to places like St. Petersburg, FL, St. Louis, MO, Philadelphia, PA, and Las Vegas, Nevada. We consistently finish in the top 8 teams at nationals every year with a 3rd place finish at Narch Winternationals in 2003.
Present: We are currently fielding 3 traveling teams: 1 A-team consisting of 8-9 skaters with 2 goalies and 2 B-teams that also travel to various places around California. Each B-team will contain 10 skaters and up to 2 goalies each. All three teams are highly competitive. This year both our A-team and B-team won the WCRHL Regional championships in their respective divisions. In addition, the remaining B-team took second place. At the end of the 2003-2004 season both the A and B-teams traveled to the NCRHA Nationals to compete against the nations best in Anaheim, CA.
Practice: During the regular season there will be at least one formal practice a week taking place at the Central Coast Sports Arena in Santa Maria, CA (approximately 30 minutes away). We also have pick-up and informal practices at Santa Rosa Park which is an outdoor facility a few minutes away from campus. Costs: Due to cuts in the Collegiate sports department's budget next year we are not expecting any financial help. Therefore, the costs of membership will be rising to as much as $300 for B-team members and $350 for A-team members. This membership includes league fees, practices, t-shirts, and a minimal amount of travel expenses, if any. It is a one time fee though. Other costs may include jerseys and pants. We usually get these items at a discounted price. No more than 70-80 for two jerseys and a pair of pants. (It is more expensive for the A-team).
