Letters
from 2002 students::

Letter 1
Be very careful when chasing after roommates - if
you slip on the bath mat and dislocate your knee and
miss your day at Nuku Hiva, you will be very disappointed
-
Letter 2
We spent our port time swimming with sharks, swinging
off ropes into pools in tropical forests, bungee jumping,
swimming under waterfalls, exploring deep glowworm
caves, visiting the crocodile hunter zoo, feeding
kangaroos and koalas, and rafting to a native village
in Fiji. You can do a lot in three days. I even zorbed
in New Zealand, where you get into a huge inflated
ball with some water and roll down a hill.
-
Letter 3
Well, if you are reading this you are most likely
very interested in going to the Cal Poly at Sea program.
I really hope that you do. I do not want to tell you
it was a perfect trip or that there weren't any frustrating
moments, but overall I had the time of my life.
-
Letter 4
I only heard about the program and decided to come
the quarter before we left, so it all seemed to happen
pretty fast. I do have a boyfriend who didn't come
and that was probably the hardest part. My advice
to anyone in this situation is to definitely go! You
don't want to pass up this opportunity because of
someone else and you definitely don't want to regret
it. Besides, two months is not that long and if it
was meant to be you guys will make it.
-
Letter 5
If, however, you hated the dorm experience or are
a big baby, don't sign up for lower berthing. In fact,
if you are a big baby don't sign up for the cruise
at all because you will hate it. If you are open to
other cultures and have some adventurous blood then
this possibly is the thing for you. The real question
you should ask yourself is whether you want to use
your money solely to see things on land only, or whether
you don't mind splitting it up between land and sea.
Good luck!
-
Letter 6
You have not seen the ocean until you have looked
into its depths and can see the bottom of the ship.
You have not seen the ocean until you see more than
one color of blue and green, until you have seen the
bioluminescence, and the dolphins riding the bow wave.
You do not know the sky at night until you have been
in the complete darkness of the Pacific. There is
no limit to the magic that might be in store for you.
Enjoy.

Letter 7
Hopefully this information will help you make up your
mind ... I'll be honest about everything! First of
all, let me just tell you that this trip has been
the most incredible thing I've ever done in my life.
I don't even have anything I could compare to these
past two months. The people, the ports, living at
sea, everything I've done has been amazing.
-
Letter 8
My advice to students is #1 don't come with a boyfriend.
You'll hear this repeated to you over and over again,
and I promise you'll believe you can handle it. You
can't, and why would you want to.
-
Letter 9
Would I recommend this trip to others .... absolutely.
I don't think there is a better way to visit several
places for the amount this trip has cost, and besides
it gives you a break from the monotony of going to
school in SLO.
-
Letter 10
It is awesome. The sunsets are killer (don't take
a class that may get in the way of watching them (1630
or later). The sunrises are amazing as well. The stars
will blow your mind. The ocean will blow you away.
You never get tired of looking at it, but land does
become really exciting, just because it means port
time! The water is amazing and so is the wind in your
hair. It is truly amazing just to be out in the middle
of the ocean.

Letter 11
The ship is like a city on water. There is a computer
lab with twelve computers and a printer, a gym which
has four rowing machines, three treadmills, a punching
bag, wrestling mats, tumbling mats, all sorts of free
weights and weight machines - it should be fine for
whatever you wish. If you walk through the gym and
open the door across the way it leads to the reading
room and library. Here is a great hint: these couches
are super, super comfortable!!!!
