If you have ever dreamed of life at sea, this is your program! Cal Poly at Sea is sponsored by Cal Poly and the California Maritime Academy. Participants live and study with cadets from CMA aboard their training ship, The Golden Bear. A 500-foot ex-navy oceanographic vessel, The Golden Bear is a unique living laboratory that offers Cal Poly Students (referred to as cadets) two months of shipboard experience, classroom instruction, and a unique international travel experience.

Cruise 2009 will be to the South Pacific during Spring Quarter. The tentative itinerary includes stops
in Panama City, Panama; Valparaiso, Chile; Guayaquil, Ecuador; and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico . More detalis are on the Ports of Call page.

• Students will take a minimum of 12 Cal Poly quarter units pluse 2 CMA semester units of training. All students on board must take a 40-hour life saving program that helps prepare them for emergencies that may occur on board. This course is scheduled one week prior to departure. A 30-hour seminar is also provided to allow students to familiarize themselves with fire safety, seamanship, navigation, engineering, communication, rescue-at-sea, and marine environmental protection.
