:: Program Fees ::

If you planed a 60 day trip to romp around New Zealand, Tonga, Tahiti, Hawaii... how much do you think it would cost? Add in your rent, utilities, tuition, food, etc and see what that adds up to. Whatever the sum, it can't beat our price. Cal Poly at Sea program runs between $6,800 and $7,800 for 60 days, 15 days in port, and offers each student a truly unique view of the world.

The program provides students with classrooms, sleeping quarters, meals and more. In order to provide these services there are program fees in addition to tuition and personal expenses. Since this is a working vessel and everyone chips in, the cost to participate in this program is not much more than staying here at Cal Poly. The cost is broken down into three main categories:

Funnel 1. Tuition
All students must enroll in a minimum of 12 Cal Poly units in addition to two one-unit courses provided by CMA. Cal Poly tuition varies by college/academic unit. In addition to Cal Poly tuition, participation in the program requires a supplemental program fee of $300.00. This fee is applied to the Cal Poly at Sea Program in order to provide support, staff positions, equipment and other costs associated with running the program.

2. Cruise Fees
CMA Cruise fees total $4,015 The cruise fees include your uniforms, documents, medical fees (including drug screen), room and board, and administrative costs. The U.S. Coast Guard is requiring all program participants to obtain a Merchant Mariner Document (MMD). The issuance fee for the MMD is $140 and payable to the US Coast Guard.

NOTE: CMA runs two cruises per year one during the traditional Spring quarter and one during the summer. Cal Poly runs the Cal Poly at Sea program on the first cruise in the spring and CSU Monterey Bay runs their program, Study at Sea, on the second cruise in the summer. Both programs cost approximately the same; however the other program most like Cal Poly at Sea is "Semester at Sea". Semester at Sea is an 80-day voyage and costs run around $17,000. The Summer Cruise (65-days) costs around $10,000.

Tuition Schedule
The program is open to students, 18 years of age or older, enrolled in a four year university. Depending on where you go to school, your tuition cost will vary. Please select the category you are in to see your tuition costs.
